I have known Betsy for over twenty-five years, and her ability to understand what is going on in China and to process this into advice specific to each client still amazes me. She is a perfect ‘interpreter’ of American culture and global norms for the Chinese; and of Chinese business practices and culture to non-Chinese. Bridging the two environments can be difficult. Betsy can do it in both English and Mandarin, and with an open and engaging style which makes her very easy to work with.

Betsy began advising HomeAway on China strategy when I served as Chief Development Officer, and continues to work with the team today. She quickly proved to be a tremendous asset to HomeAway’s corporate development and a critical advisor to me and other C team members. Her long-term experience working with Chinese partners and companies and fluency in Mandarin has been critical for HomeAway as we avoided being “roadkill” on the road to China! Betsy was very quick to understand the nuances of our business and is a serious, strategic thinker when looking at a US business and how it might adapt, change, or be consumed in China. Finally, she is an excellent sounding board and partner to have when working in this part of the world.

As an American executive working in a Chinese global company, I find Betsy’s knowledge of US-China communication and relationship-building to be spot on. She knows how to bridge gaps in work-style as well as being a very supportive and insightful coach with strong interpersonal and intercultural ability. Betsy coached me during US repatriation transition and I continue to appreciate her support.
Yolanda Conyers, VP Worldwide Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer at Lenovo
Betsy was my coach when I first came from China to the US, and her support during my transition was essential to my success in navigating the cultural differences in the workplace here and at home. Later as a manager with my firm, I brought Betsy in for trouble-shooting and facilitation during a US-China JV team integration. The skill building and tools she provide based on her extensive time in China and command of Mandarin and Chinese culture helped both the Chinese and American employees understand each other better and communicate in ways that were effective and culturally appropriate. I would highly recommend Betsy’s services for inbound and outbound transitions.
- Sophia Liu, Huntsman
Betsy was a big help to our company’s Chinese joint venture, with bilingual training and personal coaching for relocated Chinese associates and their families. Group sessions with the technical teams provided insights and new skills that had never considered by the highly capable Americans who were beginning work in China. Likewise, the inbound Chinese business leaders made good transitions to business and personal life in the USA, which had been problematic for several of our previous Chinese expats. We will continue to involve Betsy in future relocations and training.
